Beijing Day 3

Today we met most of the Jiangxi 12-07 traveling group on our tour to the Great Wall and Hutong. They all seem very nice and anxious to get their hands on the babies.
The Great Wall was amazing as was the weather - we could see the wall far off into the distance!
We went to the less crowded section of the wall (I can't remember the name) and took a cable car up to the wall itself. We then went a short distance just two guard towers - it was very steep. We also tryed our bargaining skills again but we still need alot more practice. I even took video of Edith trying to bargain for chopsticks and the other sales ladies were watching the video and laughing along.
We then went to a Cloisterone (sp?) shop - they specialize in hand made copper pots. We heard about the process and saw the workers hard at work. The factory was located in a very rural part of Beijing and the working conditions were very bleak. I need to remember this when I am having a bad day at work.
A Hutong tour was next where we took rickshaws through the hutong section. The hutong is a very old neighborhood made up of narrow alleyways and small houses. People live in the hutong for many generations. We visited one families home - about 700 square feet. It was very small but well taken care of and the lady who owned the house welcomed 26 people into her house. It was interesting to see how the average Chinese family lives.
We are trying to get over the jet lag but still get tired about 5-6pm. We keep meaning to go out after the tours but we are just too tired.
Tomorrow we have the Holt orientation where we will get updated photos of the babies that were taken only a couple of days ago. I can't wait - I hope that I can sleep tonight.
