We're Here!!!!

We finally made it to Beijing after a really, really long flight. We were 16 hours in the air from Charlotte to Beijing. We traveled north from New York to Canada, past Greenland, over the North Pole and south over Siberia into Beijing. When it wasn't dark, the views were incredible. When we were flying into Beijing we went from sunny skies above the clouds to smoggy skies below. We got through immigration with no problems although it is quite intimidating getting off the plane to uniformed officers who don't speak English. The guide, Crystal met us at the airport and then took us to a traditional tea ceremony. It was quite interesting how important tea is in China. Afterwards, we went to our hotel; the Jianguo Garden Hotel, took showers and fell right to sleep. We all woke up about five hours later, stayed up for an hour and then went back to sleep for another five hours. I think we are on their time now and hopefully over the jetlag. The hotel is gorgeous and has all the amenities including a bowling alley!!
We went shopping early this morning and we will be going to an acrobatics show later with Peking duck afterwards.

Hi world travelers! Gordon and I have read your messages through the third day and have enjoyed hearing about your adventure and seeing the pics. Mom, you can't bargain here, so what makes you think you can over there? Best of luck! I've been keeping Dad very busy cleaning and reorganizing the shop, but he's not much of a mason, because the concrete block wall we built is not quite up to "OJ" standards, but it's better than the previous wall that consisted of sheets of old tin and a truck bed liner. Tim and Andrew are fine. Have fun!!! With love, Chris and Gordon.
